Cast acrylic or polycarbonate?

Most screens are built in clear cast acrylic. For high-impact environments — schools, public buildings, anywhere likely to take a knock — we recommend polycarbonate instead.

Default choice
Cast Acrylic PMMA

Optically clear, easy to clean, durable for office and retail environments. Cost-effective for most applications. The standard material for protective screens.

FAQ

Protective screen questions

What sizes of screen can you make?
Any size from small 300mm-tall counter screens up to 2m+ floor-standing dividers. Single-panel screens limited to 2050×1520mm by our sheet size; larger screens supplied as joined assemblies.
What thickness of acrylic do you use?
Typically 3mm or 5mm cast acrylic for counter and desk screens (light enough to handle, robust for everyday use). 8mm or 10mm for floor-standing dividers and queue management screens. For high-impact environments we recommend polycarbonate at the same thicknesses.
How are the screens mounted?
Several options depending on the use. Free-standing screens have weighted bases or A-frame supports. Clamp-on screens use desktop clamps to attach to desk edges — no drilling, removable. Screw-mounted screens fix permanently to desk or counter. Hanging screens suspend from ceiling or above-counter frames.
Can the screens have cutouts for transactions?
Yes — transaction cutouts (the slot at the bottom for documents, cash, cards) are standard. Standard cutout is 250×100mm but we’ll size to your need. Multiple cutouts on multi-station screens. Voice transmission ports (small mesh holes) can be added for high-noise environments.
Are the screens easy to clean?
Yes — cast acrylic and polycarbonate both clean with mild soap and water, or proprietary acrylic cleaner. Avoid ammonia-based glass cleaners (they can craze acrylic over time). Daily disinfectant wipe-down is fine.
Can we have our branding on the screen?
Yes — vinyl-applied logos, frosted or printed brand bands, etched corporate marks, or full UV-printed graphics. Common for reception screens, restaurant screens with allergen info, and queue management with instruction graphics.
Are these still relevant post-pandemic?
Sneeze guards as a pandemic response have wound down, but the protective screen category as a whole is bigger than it was pre-2020. Desk dividers in open-plan offices, counter screens in retail and healthcare, and queue-management screens have become standard fit-out items.
Can the screens incorporate frosted or privacy areas?
Yes — frosted vinyl or etched-effect panels for privacy in meeting rooms, financial advice areas, healthcare settings. Often combined with clear visibility areas for service interaction.
What about queue management screens?
Yes — floor-standing screens that define queue lanes for retail, banks, pharmacies, healthcare reception. Free-standing with weighted bases, often paired with vinyl floor markings.
Do you supply screens for healthcare and public sector?
Yes — hospital reception screens, dental practice screens, GP surgery screens, pharmacy counter screens, council office counter screens. Materials, fixings and design meet typical public-sector procurement specs.
